Products And Programs

Alberta Netcare EHR is a program that encompasses all the projects, processes, products, and services that work together to make Alberta's EHR a reality. It has been developed by AHW in cooperation and partnership with Alberta Health Services, and many other partners including the health professional colleges and associations. These products and services are summarized on this page. Links to more detailed information are also provided.

 

Products

Alberta Netcare EHR Portal is comprised of several EHR products that have been developed to meet regional needs and the requirements of health service providers. These products are linked together to comprise the province-wide Alberta Netcare EHR Portal.
 

The Alberta Netcare EHR product offerings are:

 

  • Alberta Netcare EHR Portal is the enhanced version of Alberta Netcare Portal 2004. This release provides access to the full range of currently-available patient health information:


    • personal demographic information helps to uniquely identify each patient

    • prescribed dispensed drugs

    • known allergies and intolerances

    • immunizations

    • laboratory test results

    • diagnostic imaging reports

    • other medical reports


  • Alberta Netcare EHR Portal is also available in a "system to system" (S2S) version that integrates directly with some physician Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems. S2S allows data to be seamlessly accessed and transferred between these local systems and the provincial electronic health record.



  • Alberta Netcare Portal 2004 provides access to basic patient information:


    • personal demographics to make it easy to identify and find patients

    • prescribed dispensed drugs, as well as known allergies and intolerances

    • some laboratory results

 

Alberta Netcare EHR Portal continues to be developed and enhanced. Portal 2004 users are being encouraged, assisted and supported to migrate over to the new EHR Portal.

 

Alberta Netcare Deployment Team

Authorized health service providers signing up to use Alberta Netcare receive training and change management support from a dedicated team of consultants within the Alberta Netcare Deployment Team.
 

Alberta Netcare supports users in planning, training and transition. While it typically takes some time to fully incorporate the tool into an office or business, current users say it saves time over the long-term and provides for better patient care. Programs

Alberta Health and Wellness (AHW) has put in place a number of programs and services to support the implementation of Alberta Netcare EHR with health service providers across Alberta.

 

Physician Office System Program (POSP)

Alberta's Physician Office System Program (POSP) is the first of its kind in Canada. POSP has been very successful at helping physicians introduce information technology in their clinics. This program is building the foundation for these physicians to participate fully in the electronic health information system.

POSP works with health stakeholders to develop and maintain a comprehensive set of standards-based requirements for physician office systems. POSP is a joint initiative under the Master Agreement between the Alberta Medical Association, Alberta Health and Wellness and Alberta Health Services.
