Frequently Asked Questions
What is PSSP?
- PSSP is a new secure, web-based portal for authorized healthcare providers to manage their practice information and view the contact information of other providers in the Provincial Provider Registry.
What is the purpose of having my contact information in the PSSP?
- The Provider Self-Serve Portal will provide healthcare providers with a timely and efficient way to update their contact information. In addition, healthcare providers will be able lookup contact information on other healthcare providers.
- PSSP will make it easier for AHS and non-AHS healthcare providers to connect with each other, share information and provide timely patient care – particularly in the event of critical test results, or a public health emergency.
Who has access?
- Physicians will be the first health professionals to use the PSSP, with other regulated healthcare providers added in future.
- PSSP is available only to verified end-users of Alberta Netcare, so regulated health professionals currently without Netcare access should apply.
Why should I use PSSP?
- By using PSSP, physicians will be able to view the contact information of other healthcare providers.
- Physicians will also be able to review and edit key information about their practice (address, contact information, etc.).
- In the future, PSSP will contain contact information for all Alberta providers. It will also connect to the Clinical Information System (CIS).
- You will be able to connect faster with other healthcare providers and reduce time spent searching multiple sources for contact information.
What type of information can I update?
- Clinic address, contact information, emergency and critical results contact information.
- Emergency contact information will be used for disaster recovery purposes, or during a health related crisis.
- Critical results contact information will be used to communicate critical lab and DI results.
Will the updates I make to my contact information in the PSSP also update my regulatory College?
- Not at this time. You still need to notify your regulatory College of any changes to your contact information.
Will I be able to update my Appointments and Privileges within PSSP?
- Not at this time. You still need to follow current Appointments and Privileges processes.
